Reality Check- Summer Edition #3 by Kate Jones

Reality Check- Watching 'Big Brother'

During the first summer of my relationship with hubby, I started watching 'Big Brother' all because he liked it. Now, we still watch it, and it’s ALL ME! I love this voyeuristic nonsense! Food competitions! Twists! Back-dooring! SHOWMANCES! It’s the perfect summer show! It is on three nights a week (Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday), and is also on Showtime 2 every night (Big Brother After Dark) though it is unedited. Also, if you are a real sicko, you can subscribe to the live feed and watch it all the time! Towards the end of the season, I usually become so obsessed with who is going to win that I check out other websites’ live feed updates. This season I am trying not to do that. I also don’t particularly hate or love any of the contestants just yet.

If you are thinking about trying this show out, tonight is a good time to start. So far only two people have been evicted (bisexual Annie, the saboteur, and princess Monet). So you will still be able to get a taste of most of the housemates. The people up for eviction are forty-something, sheriff Kathy from Arkansas, and Doctor Captain Kosher Andrew, a practicing Jew who is observing his religion in the house but lying about his profession. 'Head of Household' (HOH) Matt, a self-described genius who proclaims himself to be the best player in Big Brother history (watch out, Matt! People who count their chickens usually don’t go as far in this game) and who has also told everyone in the house that his wife is suffering from a rare disease, played it a little safe this week by putting up two floaters. Here are a few other things going on!

The Brigade- The alliance of Matt, Hayden, Lane and Enzo. This is a pretty successful secret alliance. They also have side alliance, but all are committed to The Brigade first. However, it is looking like Hayden might be swaying a little because of his showmance with Kristen.

Brendon and Rachel- Holy Moley! These two have gone beyond showmance quick. They are like totally in love. Rachel admitted she would sacrifice herself for Brendan in this game and that his love is more important than $500,000. Also, everybody seems to want to get them out but they have avoided elimination now three weeks in a row! I hope they stay a while. They are pretty entertaining.

Britney- She is about 5 feet and 90 pounds of TOTALLY- FREAKING-HILARIOUS! The girl’s nasty one liners sound like they come right out of me and my best friends’ bitch-sessions. For example, in her goodbye message to Monet, “ Who am I going to talk to about Kristen’s high-waisted pants or what we could do with Rachel’s hair extensions?” She also said that she’s afraid that all of Rachel’s STDs would be airborne when she wears short skirts. Her delivery is better than my explanations. See the below you tube clip.

Essential Reading: George R.R. Martin's 'A Game of Thrones'

Article by Kate Jones

Okay, so I just started reading a fantasy series by George R.R. Martin called A Song of Ice and Fire. For this, I would like to thank CCD reader, Owen Masiello, to whom I now owe my first born child, though I was thinking we could just make some sort of marriage pact between our kids someday in AGOT fashion. Anyway, totally and completely amazing! The first book, “A Game of Thrones,” was so completely awesome that I started reading “A Clash of Kings” immediately after finishing book 1. They are pretty long, and because of stupid work and blogging (you can’t see my pouty face, people, but I promise you, it is there) its taking me a little longer to get through them then my usual speed reading session. Regardless, I think all of you should pick these up. If the sheer awesomeness of these tomes isn’t reason enough, Mike D. informed me that A Game of Thrones is being made into an HBO series that will air in 2011! Also, it looks like production will cost LOTS of money, a la Rome, meaning it should be visually stunning. I imagine Braveheart like scenery and lots and lots of castles!

Still not convinced? How about one of the stars being Sean Bean, or Boromir from The Fellowship of the Ring and numerous other Sci-Fi/ Fantasy movies. He will be playing Lord Eddard Stark. Another star, Peter Dinklage, played the “angry little elf” in Will Ferrell’s Elf and will now be playing, The Imp, Tyrion Lannister.

Lego Iconic Vol #1

I am such a huge Lego nerd that words can not explain. Soooo I've decided to use my favorite blog site CCD.com as an outlet to get some of this stuff that I see every day, built out of bricks, out of my skull and onto the blogosphere where it can't hurt my cerebral cortex. Each month I'll be posting the best of the best hoping to inspire the Lego maniac in each of you...young and old.  Enjoy!

" ...And I'll form the (plastic brick) head!" Lego 'Voltron' by Grand Admiral. It's made completely of Lego bricks and is rumored to break down into completely separate freely functioning lions. check out the rest of their Flickr.com Lego submissions!

Two great ideas from Sir Nadroj. The first, a sleek Lego brick Bentley and driver. The second,  the creepy film noir 'Black and White' done only in black, white and grey Lego bricks. Note the black blood spattered pavement. Check out all of their submissions. 'Lotta talent..'lotta talent!

Commercially Acclaimed #7- Absolut Vodka Addition

TV commercials are a part of our everyday lives as TV viewers. Even though Tivo and DVR have allowed us to "skip through" the commercials, the advertising companies a still trying to peak our interests by coming up with creative commercials. To me, great commercials are an art form and are under appreciated by a society that is always trying to speed through things. Think about it... how many times did you see a great commercial that made you laugh hysterically or want to go out and purchase the advertised product??? And how many times has the best part of the Super Bowl been the commercials during a blow out game??? Whether you want to admit it or not, commercials are cool as shit... and here are some of my favorites.

Today we are gonna check out Absolut's new ad featuring Ali Larter as Lemon Drop... I like it, I really do. Plus, I'm old school.... I drink Absolut straight till it burns, enough to give my chest hairs a perm!!! (What Meth!!!)

OHC of the Day: Dania Ramirez

Oh my, my, my... Ms. Ramirez, how you have grown before our eyes!!! Dania has been around for a minute, but due to her recent role on the HBO hit show Entourage, she is about to break out. She played Calisto in X-Men 3 and had a sexy hero/villian fight with Halle Berry. She also had a small part in the last season of the Sopranos and played Maya Herrea on NBC's Heroes. She was also a video girl, appearing in Jay-Z's song Streets Is Watching and LL Cool J's Hush. She is also a favorite of director Spike Lee, and appeared in his movies She Hate Me and The 25th Hour. Next up you can catch her in hubby Jesse Terrero's next film Brooklyn to Manhattan & alongside Joseph Gordon Levitt and fellow hotness (and possible future OHC) Jaime Chung in Premium Rush, both to be released soon. Oh Dania, slow down ma, you killin' em!!! Please leave your comments on this lovely lady below. Your welcome.

5 Videos To Remember Why We All Love Jason So Much

So I finally got a chance to catch the excellent Friday the 13th documentary His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th on Netflix Instant Streaming (Shocking right... me watch Netflix streaming???) and was drawn back in to all that is awesome (and goofy) about the Friday the 13th series. I recommend the doc to anybody who likes the series, but I included a few videos from the past 30 years of some of Jason's on and off screen activities. There is a banned Nike commercial, Jason on the Arsenio Hall show (that's classic) and an interesting look at one nerds attempt to beat the Friday the 13th Nintendo game. Just wanted to share these forgotten moments with you guys. Tell me what you think in the comment section below. Long live Mr. Jason Voorhees.

Gran Apertura Vol#5- Pulp Fiction

Gran Apertura means "Great Opening" in Italian. I felt it was an appropriate title for the new column I will be writing here at C-C-D. I love movies, but every once in a blue there is an opening segment in a movie that just sets the bar way to high for the rest of the flick. This opening scene is so good, it can't be topped by the rest of the movie itself. Or, sometimes the opening scene is part of an excellent film, and it does the job of getting you roped in. No matter what, the opening scene in a movie is probably THE MOST IMPORTANT scene in the whole film. So this column will highlight some of the greatest opening segments from the wide world of cinema. If you like what you see, maybe you will go ahead a check out the films in completion. Happy Viewings!!!

Pulp Fiction - 1994

One of my all time favorite movies, and the one that put one of my favorite directors, Quentin Tarantino, on the map. The opening scene is important, because in the non linear story line of the film, it all comes full circle back in the diner. I love this movie more then words can express. Enjoy this first scene, and if you never seen this movie... besides being ashamed of yourself, get to a video store!!!!

Celebrity Life Appreciation Volume #1

So much is said about people after they have passed on that, sometimes, I am saddened that I didn't appreciate them more when they were still with us by talking about them, discussing their great works, etc. There are quite a few creative persons who are still amongst the living but unfortunately have faded from Hollywood's immediate spotlight in the search for the more youthful talent of today. I decided to create a regularly occurring homage in pictures to those beloved celebrities that are still alive today but, are in danger of going unnoticed until their deaths puts them in the fore front of the daily news.  My hope is that I may inspire even one person to watch or rewatch a few of their films or TV shows or listen to a few of their albums and in certain cases, read a few of their books..to appreciate them while they are still here to accept that appreciation.

This weeks spotlight is on the great and whimsical Gene Wilder.  Enjoy the compilation.

Sucker Punch Promo Posters... I Love An All Female Cast, Don't You???

So lots of cool stuff is coming out of San Diego, but one of the things that I am most excited for would have to be items from Zack Snyder's upcoming opus, Sucker Punch. I am a big fan of all of Snyder's past movies, especially 300 and Watchmen. I thought he did a great job adapting those comics to the big screen, which was no small task. Sucker Punch is Snyder's first foray into directing one of his own original ideas, as the story was written by him and Steve Shibuya.

The story follows the young girl Baby Doll (Emily Browning, above poster) and her confinement in a mental institution. In 5 days she will be labotmized, on the request of her prick stepdad. She creates a dreamlike world in which she needs to collect 5 items that will help her escape the institution back in the real world. In this dreamscape, she will encounter tons of fantastical creatures and technological marvels, and she will be assisted by some of her fellow inmates at the asylum. Snyder describes the movie as "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns." How can that be bad. Add in a crazy female cast with some real hotties (Vanessa Hudgens, Jenna Malone, Carla Gugino, Jaime Chung, Emily Browning) and you got my interest peaked. So this brings us to Comic Con 2010. Snyder plans on showing some footage for the film thats been shot, and he has issued the following six character posters for the girls of the movie. Take a look at the additional 5:

Thanks to the guys over at 411mania for the photos. So what do you guys think? How do you like the posters and the premise of the story??? Let us know in the comment section below.
