Happy New Year From CCD

Have a Happy New Years gang. be safe and party hard. We will be back posting more great pop culture related stuff for you guys in 2012. We are looking forward to another great year here at CCD, and I can't wait to take CCD to all new heights. Thank you to Cal from the Cave of Cool for the above invite. That picture is so true and perfect for our sarcastic humor... it actually sounds like the party I will probably be going to!!!

Oh... Now I Get It! (No I Don't)

Talk about confusion. Although I am a huge fan of almost every Legend of Zelda game in the franchise's history, I have to admit that I have often been confused as to exactly WHEN in time certain games take place. The series jumps around quite a bit, with the two original games (Zelda and Adventures of Link) occurring last in time frame. So what does a real fan of Link and the gang really need to properly understand everything? How about and infographic from the new art book, Hyrule Historia, that chronicles everything that have ever occurred in the Zelda universe. Here you go... your welcome. Click after the jump for the full graphic. Now get back to Skyward Sword and handle your business...

Artist Profile: Sam Spratt

I love it when things come full circle. I find this happening more and more these days. I fist saw artists Sam Spratt's work when Rainn Wilson decided to adopt Spratt's drawing of him with a Bear Skin on his head as his own personal Twitter avatar. Imagine how cool that must have been for Spratt... so cool. But that's just the tip of the iceberg for Spratt. Directly out of college Spratt was tapped to be the ONLY illustrator for the Gawker Media empire (Gawker, Gizmodo, Kotaku, etc)... not to shabby. He has gone on to create some fantastic pieces of celebs, and even a Game Informer Magazine cover that is bananas!!! Oh, and I almost forgot... Spratt is from Brooklyn as well!!!! You know how much we love to support the local NYC artists. Thanks to Jeff & Edson for sending me a link to such a cool artist. You can click here to see his full online portfolio, and click after the jump to see some of my personal faves from Spratt. Trust me, these pieces will have your jaw hovering just above floor level...

Another Day, More Danny Trejo

After yesterday's discussion of his new film 'Bad Ass' here on CCD, I feel like we need even more Danny Trejo in our lives. This guy is such an awesome actor... his emotions are so real! Need proof? Click after the jump to see for yourself...

12 Months Of Kate Upton... Yup, Your Welcome!!!

This one goes out to all my hardcore CCD'ers out there. The people who are on this site everyday, always leaving comments and  pushing our site to crazy new heights. Here is a little customer appreciation gift... think of it as a post Christmas, pre New Years present from us to you. Kate Upton may be the hottest women on the planet. Here is 12 months worth of boobies to brighten your day...

The Harry Potter Crew... Anime Style!!!

I am of the opinion that the Harry Potter movie series is the best overall collection of related movies in the history of cinema. Yup, its true. Only The Lord Of The Rings trilogy comes close. Why, you ask? Because each and every film in the series is fantastic and grows the franchise. Almost all other series have missteps along the way... but not HP. Due to it's overwhelming awesomeness, you are going to get some weird re-imaginings of the cast courtesy of fans all across the world. Case in point: Holy Taco gathered up 25 weird and wacky Harry Potter pieces. You can click here to see the full list of weirdness, but after the jump I included my faves... Harry Potter in the form of Japanese Anime!!! Bring on the big eyes and tentacle rape... lets go!!!

Pepper Spray Cop Vs The World... Fight!!!

Wow... this guy will never live that pepper spraying incident down. This time we have Lt John being thrust into the world of Street Fighter, taking on blondie Ken. He also tangles with ole St Nick and mega mouth Michael Moore. I love these pieces by Pazero, especially the Injustice Mist that he carries into battle. Meme's never die... they multiply!!! Check out the pieces after the jump...

Supernatural Bros. by Lee Byway

Great mash-up of the WB smash TV show Supernatural and everyone's favorite plumbers from Brooklyn, the Super Mario Brothers!!! I love the idea of getting a Winchester rifle as a power up item, and Boo has never looked so shook as he does in this piece. Perfectly don. Click here to check out more items for sale by Lee Byway and click after the jump to see the full sized pic...

Wu-Tang Wednesday: Dr. SeWUss & The Who Tang Clan by Alex Pardee

It's that time again... time to celebrate the greatest rap group in history. It's Wu Tang Wednesday motherfuckers!!! Today we get a very artistic mash-up from Alex Pardee and the Zero-Friends crew entitled "Dr. SeWUss & The Who Tang Clan". This is a phenomenal design right here. Dr. Suess mashed up with the WU? Ooohhhh, hell ya!!!! Although Pardee says that this print will never be made available for sale, he provides a link to a high res copy that would be suitable for print by clicking here. Check out Pardee's site... his shit is fire!!!

Wu-Tang forever, motherfuckers!!!

'Bad Ass' Looks Pretty... Bad ASS!!!

The trailer for Danny Trejo's new flick 'Bad Ass' has been making it's way around the Internet, and it is sparking all types of controversy. Is this a real movie? is this really gonna happen? Can a film possibly be THIS BAD ASS? Trejo looks like he is going even more over the top than he did in Machette... and that is WAY over the top. But on another note, I think this is exactly what Trejo should be doing. These movies are wacky, look like they are relatively inexpensive to make, and are putting Trejo in a starring role instead of being a supporting character. Considering the success of grindhouse-type fare such as Hobo With A Shotgun, Death Proof and Machete in recent years, I think this would go over gangbusters. Enter in Ron "Hellboy" Pearlman and Charles "Roc" Dutton into the mix and this movie looks unreal. What do you guys think? Artist Profile: Flaviano

We post a lot of artist's works from around the world. Many different countries have seen their work portrayed here on this site. To my knowledge, Flaviano is the first Italian artist to get some love here. Boy does he deserve it. Jeff sent me this tip about this guy and I was taken by his off kilter style and well thought out ideas for his re-imaginings of classic characters from the 80's. His "Masters of the Ghetto" series portrays some of the coolest characters from He-Man in distinctively different looks then how we are used to seeing them. The greats are all here (Beast Man, Mer Man, Skeletor, He Man, etc), but the highlights come from the obscure characters that Flaviano created (Roboto, Cyclone, and Tri Clops... yes please!!!). His next project is going to be based on the Transformers, so stay tuned. Click after the jump for some of my faves from his blog...

The Avengers: Operation Secret Santa Brings Our Christmas Coverage To An End...

For the last couple of weeks we have been featuring some very cool Christmas themed articles As we move past Dec. 25th, I neede to find something to bring it all home an culminate our Christmas coverage. Enter artist Kerry Callen and the very funny faux comic cover for an Avengers Christmas book that tells the tale of the worst Secret Santa ever, A very funny concept that is executed masterfully. The gift choices are appropriate for each character... I just wish the female characters from Earth's Mightiest Heroes were included. That could have made for some hilariousness (giving Wasp a giant can of Raid bug spray shaped like a dildo... wait, what?) Click after the jump for the cover...

Great Moments In Christmas Song History Vol #3: Santa Claus Is coming To Town by Bruce Sprinsteen

The Boss. Brucey Bruce. The legend of the Boardwalk. The King of New Jersey!!! My man Bruce Springsteen is a legend among music legends. He is the kind of musician that EVERYBODY loves at least a couple of songs from. My personal favorite would have to be "Thunder Road". But any child of the late 70's & early 80's is sure to love Bruce's classic rendition of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town". Originally performed by Bruce and The E Street Band at a college gig way back in 1975, the song wasn't released commercially by Bruce until 1985 as a B side to his single "My Hometown" (which is one of my favorite Bruce songs...). Ever since I was a tiny tot I remember hearing this song blaring through the car radio speakers, with Bruce's gruff singing voice mouthing the famous words in a way that no one ever has (or ever will) before. Ya gotta love The Boss's rendition. It is what Christmas here in the North East is all about. click after the jump for the video...

Mondo Takes On A True Christmas Classic: Gremlins Baby!!!

Conan O'Brien Once Again Proves Why He Is The Coolest Late Night TV Host In The Game...

Conan O'brien has long proven that he is light years ahead of Jay Leno & David Letterman when it comes to understanding current pop culture. He knows what people are buzzing about, and then he finds a way to integrate it into his show in some outrageous way. Case in point: The Human Centipede Menorah!!! Holy fucking shit, this is genius. I know that the Human Centipede has been around for a bit now (over a year), but it is definitely still fresh in people's minds. Conan takes that and finds a fresh way to spin it, and boy am I happy that he did. Check out the video after the jump of the 1st night lighting of the Human Centipede Menorah....

Jack Skelington The Pumpkin King Times 5!!!!

It wouldn't be the Christmas season for me without getting into The Nightmare Before Christmas coming up... I have loved this movie since it came out way back when. It's universal good will and overall love that many age groups show for the movie are a testament to just how genius the film really is. You gotta love the tale of Jack the Pumpkin King trying to take over the role of "Sandy Claws" while the real St. Nick is bound & gagged with epic baddie Oogie-Boogie. I have seen this movie in every format... Back in 1993 I saw it when it was released in theaters, and every year since 2006 my son Mikey & I check it out in Disney 3-D. It never disappoints. I'm Going to Spend My Christmas With A Dalek!!!

What. The. Fuck!!!! Check out this song that appeared on a 1960's Doctor Who Christmas record called "I'm going to spend my Christmas with a Dalek". This is just to fucking trippy to be true. I have been digging deeper and deeper into the Whovian mythos after I became completely addicted to the BBC's most recent incarnation, and the further back in time you go the weirder shit gets. If you are as big of a Doctor Who fan as I am, give this song a listen after the jump...

Oh Draw2d2, You Never Disappoint Me

After I posted those Wolverine Mashups that I saw over at Popped Culture yesterday, I did a little exploring. turns out that they were part of the a series from the gang over at Draw2d2 featuring mashups of the Marvel Universe and A Christmas Story. even though the Wolverine ones were tough, I kinda love these Hulk ones as well. A Very Merry Gauntlet

This video is sure to tickle the funnybone of anybody who considered themselves a gamer back in the 80's. If you spent anytime in a gameroom surrounded by coin operated video games, at some point you found yourself over at the Gauntlet machine. What was so attractive about this wonderful game? Well, for starters you could play with three of your friends. That meant four of you on the game at once... Gauntlet was the first machine I remember being like that (later on X-Men and TMNT would also be 4 player beasts).  Click after the jump for more...

Great moments In Christmas Song History Vol #2: Snoopy's Christmas by The Royal Guardsmen

I love Christmas songs... I really do. I love that the day after Thanksgiving 106.7 FM begins a month long, 24 hour a day Christmas music blitz. All Christmas songs, all the time. But even though I like the usual suspects (who doesn't like All I Want for Christmas by Mariah... C'mon), I tend to skew in a more obscure direction for my holiday favorites. Over the next few days I plan on sharing some of those choices with you. Today we will take a look at the exploits of Snoopy as he battles his old nemesis The Red Baron in the Christmas Classic Snoopy's Christmas (Christmas Bells) by The Royal Guardsmen. The Bumble by Christine Larsen

It's holiday time, so it was only a matter of time before I crossed paths with The bumble. The Bumble is one of my all time favorite Christmas characters... I loved those old stop motion Rudolph specials. Artist Christine Larsen portrays her version of The Bumble and boy did she ever kill it. Make sure you click here and show her some love. Tell her CCD sent ya. Click after the jump for a look at this magnificent creature...

CCD Holiday Geek Gift Guide #5: What To Get The Comic Book Newbie In Your Life

I am a veteran of the comic book game... I have been collecting since I was four (just over 28 years) and I have tons of comics/graphic novels to prove it. I, along with many of my fellow 80's baby comic geeks, were way ahead of the current comic book movie craze and have read ALL of the source material that is making the summer blockbusters the masses are devouring at a record pace. But what if you have to buy a gift for the person who is just getting started with comics? Here is a list of a few of my personal faves that will give any comic fan, new or old, a smile on their face. These will even work for a hardcore fan, even though a true comic book head SHOULD have in their collection (both in issue format and collected versions...lol). Click after the jump for my suggestions...

These Wolverine & A Christmas Story Mash-ups Will Put A Smile On Your Face For The Holidays

Every once in awhile I come across Mash-up ideas that I can't help but smile at... This week the gang over at Popped Culture made me do just that yesterday. Great Moments In Christmas Song History Vol #1: Christmas In Hollis by Run DMC

The Painted Masterpieces of Daniel James Cox

When my man Jeff Bond forwarded me a link telling me that "These paintings should be hanging up in Tony stark's art gallery", I knew they were going to be impressive. What I didn't know was that I would be sitting here with MY FUCKING MOUTH ON THE FLOOR at just how awesome Daniel James Cox's work really was. The subjects are super hero based, but these classical type paintings class up the whole super hero genre beyond belief.  Don't believe me??? Take a look for yourself after the jump...

GI Joe: Retaliation Looks Like All Types Of Fun

I am one of the few people who actually saw the 1st GI Joe movie and actually liked it. I say that because there are a ton of people shit ton of people who bashed the movie and refused to watch it but yet still judged the movie like they new it stunk... in actuality I think a lot of people would be pleasantly surprised if they gave it a shot. Whether you saw it or not, a second Joe film is on the horizon and is due at the end of June during summer blockbuster season. Despite the fact that the guy directing it, Jon Chu, is the same guy who directed Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and Step Up 3-D... I can't believe I just typed that... this trailer looks fucking awesome!!! Click after the jump for the trailer and more...

Zombified The New Yorker Cover by Brian Cook

I grew up looking at the wonderful covers of The New Yorker Magazine with a combination of wonder and awe... I was to young to understand the content of the magazine that my grandmother always had in her living room, yet I was always drawn to the fabulously painted covers that were always visually stunning. Imagine my suprise when I passed by Brain Cook's blog and saw this awesome Zombified New Yorker mock up cover. It was just great, and it brought me back to the old days again. Hollywood Hotshots Take On The Villains Of Cinema Past

The New York Times was looking for a cool idea for a photo essay that was to appear in their annual Hollywood issue. What they came up with is absolute genius. "Touch of Evil" is a fun photo project that portays some of Hollywood's current best and brightest stars as the prototypical villains of cinema. The Madman. The Sociopath. The Home Wrecker. The Business Tycoon. These are the types of roles that have scourged films since the begining, and these re-enactments bring back some wild memories from the past. Supreme Super Heroes by Stefani Rennee

God knows we love us some super heroes here at CCD. Some might say we are obsessed. But one of the coolest things for me is seeing artists take on certain characters and put their own individual spin on them. I came across Stefani Rennee's work over at Rampaged Reality, and once I looked into her Deviant Art page I was blown away by how insane her work was. These pieces are just gorgeous, and they put a classical twist to some of your favorite characters... these are just great! I also like that she chose to include some more obscure characters, such as Constantine and Miss Marvel. Click after the jump to see the ones that I liked best...
